In Biblical times, Jewish people all lived together in the land of Israel, following the laws of Torah and attending synagogue together every Shabbat. We would sit and listen to the Rabbi and hear the Word of God. This included the prophecies of the Messiah who was foretold would be a Son who would be given to us, a descendant of King David (Isaiah 11:10). We would have learned that this Son was going to be born of a virgin Jewish woman (Isaiah 7:14) in Beit Lechem, where King David was from; but how would this happen to a virgin? By the power of God who would orchestrate the pregnancy by His Spirit, the same Spirit that hovered over the waters at creation. It would be God’s own Spirit that would conceive the Child; He would be called Immanuel, meaning God With Us (Isaiah 9:6) and The Lamb of God, because He would be the One who would offer Himself as a perfect sacrifice for our sins (Isaiah 53). A great revelation of His identity is truly found in Isaiah 9:6, He would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father. Looking closely at the scripture, it tells us that the Son would indeed be God Himself, coming to us a Man, a Son from the Tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10) who would offer Himself as a sacrifice for our sins and resurrect to become our eternal King of the universe(Isaiah 53)! This is entirely supernatural and not religious at all, God’s Kingdom is a realm with a government, and not a religion. Our Father is the King of the universe, so as His Children, the universe is already ours as an inheritance. Because we live in a fallen world, we must be born again and receive God’s Spirit and also a New born-again Spirit from above in order to have eternal life, walk with God and fulfill the destinies that we were sent here for (Ezekiel 36:26-27). We are royalty! We were all created at the foundations of the earth and are sent here on assignment from Heaven (Genesis 2:1).
Like us, God came to earth from Heaven and put on flesh and earthly clothes to fulfill His destiny as the Messiah. We His children are sent into this earth and this generation with a specific plan and a purpose God wrote before the foundations of the world (Ephesians 1:4). We have to know God, who is Yeshua, and be born again in order to fulfill our destinies and be saved!
Before Messiah came, Israel had the sacrificial system which told us that we must offer a perfect, unblemished one-year-old lamb for sacrifice for sins, and we did this regularly, not only on Yom Kippur. Israel was accustomed to making sacrifices and the need for a sacrifice for sins, and had the revelation of a perfect, spotless lamb as an offering. Yeshua would become our Messiah King, who would save the people Israel from their sins and also be a Light to the Gentiles (the nations) so that God’s salvation would reach to the ends of the earth! (Isaiah 49:6)
What is that we need to be saved from? The price of sin, which is eternal death. In the Torah, God tells us that there is a price to pay for sins, it is a life for a life, which is why we sacrificed animals such as lambs and goats for sins. Their blood covered the sins we committed. Isaiah 53 tells us that the Messiah would be wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and by His stripes, we are healed. He Himself took the punishment for our sins and then miraculously, resurrected three days later also by the power of the Ruach of God. This is a revelation for humanity! A final judgement upon sin is coming and it is called The Day of the Lord. It is spoken about all throughout the Bible, Yeshua, who is God, is coming back to destroy all evil upon the earth and it will be a great and terrible day, like the flood that destroyed the earth in Noah’s time. The Lord is coming with His mighty angels in flaming fire, everyone who does not know Him will pay the price of eternal separation from God, because they didn’t receive His free gift of salvation and forgiveness of sin. It is NOT God’s will that anyone perish, so He is patient with us, wanting the whole world to receive Yeshua and be truly saved and restored to His Kingdom for eternity (Isaiah 24:21-22, 2 Peter 3:9-10, Daniel 9:25-27)

I’m not sure how they taught this in the synagogues back then but these are the prophecies that are in our Bible, given to us by the Hebrew Prophets. I was reading the story of King David today and wondered what it felt like to be a Jew at that time, living in Israel with all of our nation together, under the true Torah of God and not religion. Immediately I felt a continual peace I knew they had; I imagined King David, riding through the forests of Israel with His wife Abigail, knowing in their hearts that they were with the God of Israel and living under His shelter, protection, promises, and blessing. They had complete shalom.
Imagine if you lived in that time, and you heard those prophecies, what would you think? Wouldn’t you be waiting for the day that the Messiah would come to us? Wonderfully, the truth is that He has already come. Sadly, Israel was lied to by the religious leaders at the time He came and we were taught to believe that we are still waiting for the Messiah, but this is not the truth. There is no Temple or sacrifices because Yeshua fulfilled them all, there is no other way for our sins to be paid for anymore but through the sacrifice of Yeshua, who covered them ALL! There must be Blood atonement and now God has given this to us in Yeshua as well as a personal relationship again with His Ruach HaKodesh.
Because of the lies of the religious leaders, Israel rejected Yeshua, but the Good News of salvation went out to the nations, where now instead of His Hebrew name Yeshua, they have learned to call Him Jesus. He is the Savior of the world! It is time to be restored back to God and His Kingdom by the Spirit and His Messiah and not man-made religion. This Yom Kippur as you fast, study the scriptures that prophecy these things and ask God to reveal the truth to you. If you seek Him with all your heart He will reveal it to you as He has for me. Yeshua is the Messiah King who paid the price for our sins and was resurrected to eternal life!
